Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

For over a year I've been working with Studio.GS on a very exciting project for one of my favourite artists, Nick Cave. The website is an online resource for a huge collection of photos, music, journal entries and other scrapbook bits. It went live yesterday and I think it's rather splendid

A Bespoke CMS, sits behind the scenes which allows for a huge level of versatility of content while enforcing strict design rules.

Put live earlier in the week, the new website for Caxton Furniture uses a careful blend of graphic and live text to recreate the look and feel of the Caxton printed brand.

Once again a slick web 2.0 UI is based on jQuery and makes browsing through the site a pleasure.

The latest project for OUP is this all-new website for the dappy, accident-prone and utterly lovable Winnie the Witch (and of course her cat Wilbur).

Once again Mark Burvill at Galactus has supplied the lovely flash and design work and I've built in a PHP back-end and a clean accessible version for visually disabled users, those without flash and SEO.

You Love Her Coz Shes Dead are a super digital electro trash trio who have just won Best Electronica Act 2008 at the Indie Music awards 2008. The site I've built them integrates SEO friendly URLs with a slick Web 2.0 interface and YouTube feeds.

Ratbridge is populated by a variety of odd creatures including boxtrolls and cabbageheads. This new site aims to promote the Here-Be-Monsters series of children's books, as well as capture the strange world described within.

We've built two versions of the site, a fully animated flash microsite and a clean, semantic and accessible HTML version.

The Kills - Midnight Boom

I've had a lot of fun working on the promotion of the new Kills Album “Midnight Boom”.

The site, www.thekills.tv, has some pretty nice features including a user-customisable skin and a CMS that works on Blackberry mobile phones so the site can be updated while the band tour.

Dinosaur Cove, my second site for Oxford University Press, has gone live. Dinosaur Cove is a fantastic new series full of adventure, action, and dinosaurs! There are four adventures out in March 2008, and lots more to follow.

My first project for Oxford University Press has gone live. Supporting the books Hero.com & Villain.net, whichsideareyouon.co.uk is split into a full-fat flash microsite and a clean, semantic and accessible HTML version.

Love Earth

The first project that I have been working on at BBC Worldwide has gone live! Loveearth.com is the supporting website for "Earth" a feature length natural history documentary about the planet Earth. The site provides a wealth of information about the film as well as additional functionality such as the ability to track animals such as polar bears and whales and a making of blog.

The two sections I have been involved with are a dedicated kids section (http://www.loveearth.com/uk/kids) and a postcards section (http://www.loveearth.com/uk/postcards) that integrates with google maps.

BBC Worldwide

I am very excited to say that my first contract client will be BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of BBC. I'll be working in the digital delivery team on a variety of high-profile and challenging web projects.

The BBC are world leading in many aspects of web development and are quick to embrace new technologies like mobile web and RSS. In particular, I am a big admirer of the commitment to web accessibility the BBC websites have demonstrated.

W3C HTML Working Group

I am now an invited expert in the W3C HTML Working Group. The primary objective of the group is to develop the next version of HTML and it's an honour for me to be one of the 488 people worldwide that will work on this project.

I am looking forward to many in-depth discussions with other group members about the various topics surrounding the development of this next flavour of HTML. It's going to be very interesting to get a real inside peek at the technical (and no doubt political) reasons behind the decision making.

It's official, I am now the director of my own company "Julian Guy Ltd". It's been a dream of mine for some time now to take the years of commercial web development experience I have under my belt and start my own company doing things the way I think they should be done!

I plan to keep working on larger projects as a contractor for at least 3-6 months a year but I also want to look at smaller scale projects and things closer to my heart like music and local business and community.

Time to jump.
